Canoe Island Lodge
3820 Lake Shore Drive, Diamond Point, NY (map) ph. 518-668-5592
Our wedding is being held at a lakeside retreat that has a wide variety of activities for everyone to enjoy. The owners have gone above and beyond to share their special venue with us. There are tennis and volleyball courts, a private beach, options for boating, sailing and more. We will have a cookout/clambake on the private island on Friday with the reception and ceremony to be held on site, Saturday. While we don't expect you to have to go far to find something to do, here's a list of nearby amusements and activities, many of which we've tried over the years:

Outdoor Activities

Dinner/Ice Cream Cruise: Adirondac
2 Kurosaka Lane, Lake George, NY (map) ph. 518-668-4644

Hiking: Prospect Mountain
(map)
Prospect Mountain offers three sweeping vistas easily drivable by car ($10), or provides a hike of about 3 miles. The remnants of an old cog railway can be found at the summit with a scattering of picnic tables and grills. The entrance is located across from the Chamber of Commerce, look for the Prospect Veterans Highway across the street. Nearby Lake George Battleground Park allows for more casual walking with a little more history.

Lake Steamboat Cruise: Minnie-Ha-Ha 57 Beach Road, Lake George, NY (map) ph. 518-668-5777

Rafting/Tubing: Tubby Tubes 1289 Lake Ave., Lake Luzerne, NY (map) ph. 518-696-7222

Glen Drive In
963 Highway 9, Queensbury, NY (map) ph. 518-792-0023
A fully-operational DOUBLE-FEATURE drive-in, need we say more? $8/person. Best buttered popcorn east of Encinitas. Speaker poles still work, but FM radio is an option as well. Bring your foldable chairs and enjoy this American institution.

Go-Karts/Laser Tag: The Fun Spot 1035 State Route 9, Queensbury, NY (map) ph. 518-792-8989

Golfing
Queensbury Country Club
907 State Route 149, Lake George, NY(map) ph. 518-793-3711
Top of the World Golf Resort 441 Lockhart Mountain Road, Lake George, NY (map) ph. 518-668-3000

Miniature Golf
Around the World Golf 782 Beach Road, Lake George, NY (map) ph. 518-668-2531
Goony Golf 2067 US 9, Lake George, NY (map) ph. 518-668-2589

Six Flags: Great Escape
1172 State Route 9, Queensbury, NY (map)

A more affordable and conventional Six Flags with integrated water park. Not too many thrill rides, but the Comet more than makes up for it. Elements of the park's origin as "Storytown" remain, along with other kid-friendly components: a petting zoo and Wiggles World. The rides are more "Trini" scale than those found in other domestic amusement parks.

Restaurants

Bistro LeRoux 668 State Route 149, Lake George, NY (map) ph. 518-798-2982
This newcomer provides inspired American-cuisine and could hold its own with downtown NYC restaurants. If you only have one outing, this is THE restaurant to go to. Family owned with an open kitchen. Attention to detail is bar none, this is as about as good as it gets. Dinner service only, 5pm onward.

Smokey Joe's Bar and Grill 25 Canada Street, Lake George, NY (map) ph. 518-668-2660
Casual atmosphere, only carnivores need apply here. While the Barnsider is our usual go-to with a lovely outdoor deck, it's been inconsistent as of late. Try here instead. Not pure BBQ, but you'll leave happy.

George's Place 3857 New York 9L, Lake George, NY (map) ph. 518-668-5482
Best steak I've had in Lake George. Not cheap, but the Delmonico (ribeye with marinated Portobello) sets the bar. Quirky atmosphere, log cabin with Tiffany-style chandeliers. A proper salad bar is included with the meal. Call ahead! Dinner service only, 5pm early bird specials.

Martha's Dandee Cream 1133 State Route 9, Queensbury, NY (map) ph. 518-793-0372
Keep your eyes out for the rooster signage. Across from Six Flags, this place doles out frozen custard by the bucketload. Get a small, anything else is just masochistic. Lost ice cream creations are available once again:
Boston Shake: a milkshake *with* a hot fudge sundae on top. This place knew what a "Black & White" was, it passed the test. Hit this place on the way to the Drive In. Hours are at least 11pm to 9pm.

Sutton's Market 1066 State Route 9, Queensbury, NY (map) ph. 518-798-1188
The gold standard for breakfast. Get there early to poke around the shop. Bakery on-site has apple cider donuts (and decent cookies too). Do yourself a favor and try it. Breakfast and lunch service only, 7:30am to 3pm.

Shopping

Lake George Outlets 1424 State Route 9, Lake George, NY (map)
Lake George has a collection of over seventy outlet stores. Not on the scale of Woodbury Commons or Wrentham Outlets. Mid-day traffic here is tough, but you're the one that came all the way to the unspoiled wilderness to shop, right?

Bolton Landing, Bolton, NY (map)
Bolton Landing has a more upscale feel than the nearby Village. This area has some unique shops and antique stores that you won't find anywhere else. Have a cup of coffee at Bolton Beans, or pickup something special at Happy Jacks or the Teepee Gift Store.

Lake George Village, Lake George, NY (map)
Arcades, wax museums, old-time photos, fudge shops, ice cream joints, trinket stores, it's all right here. This is the main strip of Lake George, the place to see or be seen! Parking is impossible, I'd try closer to the Tiki.
